Leaders who build confidence in others

About

You can see the potential in your people.

The question is: how do we get them to see it in themselves?

- Paula Beattie

I help organisations unlock talent that is already there, by developing people's confidence to contribute, collaborate, speak up and build careers worth staying for. That's not just an operational benefit. It's a strategic one.

I'm the founder of Inspire Confidence Ltd - a specialist confidence coaching and training consultancy.

  • Keynotes, workshops and training programmes that give each person the agency and confidence to overcome self-doubt and embrace their strengths.

  • Leadership training to build confidence in those around them. That's a real skill that gets missed off most leadership training courses. Your managers will build deep trust and learn how to give feedback to those with lower self-esteem, without diminishing it further. The kind of skills that build confidence in your managers too.

If innovations and ideas come from the few not the many, your staff surveys show that leaders need to be more engaging, and communication is a problem across generations as well as departments, book a consultation to talk it through.

What would be the impact on your
organisation if people were just 10% more confident?

How much more effective would your managers be?

How much more diverse and
ideas-driven would your succession pipeline be?

The Problem I Solve

You have talented people who are capable of so much more. They're hesitant in meetings, reluctant to lead and holding back in ways that are costing you more than you can easily measure. As Head of L&D or CHRO, your senior leaders want to know why and what to do about it.

The answer is rarely about skill. It's almost always about the human aftermath of change - clarity, agency, psychological safety and confidence. Change that can range from multiple changes of leadership, to complete

re-organisational restructures.

Try this free change recovery diagnostic to identify whether the main barrier sits with individuals, management behaviours or the wider culture, so you can choose the right next step.

When confidence breaks down, trust, safety and connection often break down with it. And when that happens, your best people feel they no longer make a meaningful contribution and start looking for the door.

The Behavioural Shifts I See

Most confidence training tells you how participants felt at the end of the day. I measure what they do differently in the weeks and months that follow.

The behavioural shifts I see most consistently across programmes include:

  • Employees who previously dreaded presenting begin volunteering to deliver presentations without being thrown by the pressure

  • Individual contributors who had plateaued in the same role for years start applying for promotions and getting them

  • Delegates speak up in meetings to share ideas and raise concerns without overthinking, using my frameworks to articulate themselves clearly and confidently

  • Managers who avoided difficult conversations begin initiating them, with the skills to preserve the relationship while still saying what needs to be said

  • People no longer dismissed as too quiet, actively participating in change initiatives and in many cases, leading them

  • Managers promoted for technical competencies now building trust and improving their team's engagement scores whilst seeing greater retention of key talent

These are the kinds of shifts the programmes are designed for and they succeed because from the outset, delegates are encouraged to set behavioural targets and measurable goals for themselves, not just learning objectives.

The Four Things I Hear Most

  • Capable people are holding back and leaders don't know how to unlock them

  • A generational or senior leader/individual contributor divide is creating a them-and-us culture that stifles progression and ambition

  • People aren't collaborating, joining in or putting their hand up the way they used to

  • Talented people are leaving and no one is quite sure how to make them want to stay, especially in organisations without a clear career path

What I Do

I bring 25 years and 350+ change teams, together with an engineering background to a deceptively human problem: how do you help people believe in themselves enough to show up fully, collaborate genuinely and build careers they actually enjoy?

Through my Quiet Power® programmes, interactive workshops, and keynotes, I work with organisations to:

  • Build confidence so people re-engage rather than retreat after change

  • Bridge the generational divide by bringing senior leaders and younger talent into genuine dialogue

  • Break down silos through interactive workshops that rebuild real relationships across teams

  • Develop managers who know how to grow confidence in the people around them, not just in themselves. This includes not automatically labelling quiet people as under-confident! Labels can be presumptive and unhelpful. The most confident-seeming people are often the ones who ask for my help the most.

Clients are as diverse as Microsoft, a F1 team, Transport for London, BP, the NHS, Eli Lilly, Oxford University Press and University College London. My programmes have reached more than 5,900 people across 83 countries and 5 continents.

The Quiet Power® programme helped 500 nurses at a major hospital improve collaboration, confidence and patient health outcomes by increasing their leadership presence.

Lead to Inspire helps managers build trust, psychological safety and confidence in those around them, so these scale across the organisation, creating the kind of culture where everyone can thrive.

The Global Confidence Summit 2026

In 2026, I created and hosted the world's first Global Confidence Summit for International Women's Day, bringing together 14 successful women from across the world to share their stories of losing and regaining confidence and explore what it really takes to build lasting self-belief.

For 2027, Amnesty International will be partnering with me for the Summit. Get in touch if you would like to apply to be a corporate sponsor for this event.

How My Programmes Create Measurable Change

Lasting confidence is not measured by how inspired someone feels at the end of a workshop. It is measured by what changes in the weeks and months afterwards: speaking up, leading more confidently, handling difficult conversations, contributing ideas and taking ownership.

My programmes use a personal development framework to help participants identify the barrier they are facing, set a practical behavioural target, test small changes and make progress visible over time. This creates evidence of what is improving, rather than relying only on post-session feedback.

The Change Recovery Diagnostic helps senior leaders understand where people may be struggling across four areas: clarity, agency, psychological safety and confidence.

It helps identify whether the main barrier sits with individuals, management behaviours or the wider culture, so you can choose the right next step.

Why Work With Me

Most confidence programmes treat confidence in a vacuum. I treat it as a system - how do we rebuild it in individuals and how do we ensure the environment and culture continue to help people to thrive?

I trained as an aeronautical engineer before spending 25 years leading change and continuous improvement in some of the world's most complex, high-pressure organisations. My background means I don't just understand how people feel, I understand what it takes to create lasting change at scale in an organisation.

Delegates use a personal development framework to identify their current confidence barriers, set a specific behavioural target, test practical actions and track what changes over time. This makes progress visible through intentional practice in thinking, being and doing, rather than relying on how someone feels after an adhoc  improvement.

  • Quiet Power® is a confidence building programme comprised of 6 modules. They are each based on my unique Quiet Power® framework: Self-Acceptance, Self-Belief, Mindset and Courage. This has been developed through working with over 350 high-pressure teams, my own personal experience of completely losing and rebuilding confidence - and continual learning from my training and coaching clients as well as my Think Yourself Confident professional community of over 4,000 members.

  • Lead to Inspire is a signature leadership programme that scales confidence by training leaders in how to build confidence in people around them.

  • My keynote talk "The Confidence Reset" is a 60 minute online talk that has been commissioned by Microsoft, HSBC, Amnesty International, ActionAid amongst others. A great boost to confidence!

  • My bite-sized workshops are great for building cross-team relationships and breaking down hierarchies. They are designed to increase clarity, agency, psychological safety and confidence. They include imteractive games to get people across generations and departments talking about daily frustrations that never make it onto a Board report.

Every programme incorporates 25 years of change management expertise, individual coaching and personal development frameworks built for the real world, not the training room.
