How do we measure improvement in confidence?

Measuring confidence begins with understanding the different dimensions that we typically address during training:

Because of my background in change management, I often use Toyota change tools to help each person with their personal development framework. We establish a clear baseline and track progress over time. This includes both qualitative and quantitative measures, tailored to the individual.

This would be for whichever dimensions you feel are relevant to yourself.

For example, a "Speaking Up" qualitative measure might be:

How confident do I feel right now, sharing my thoughts in a meeting of senior leaders, from 1 to 10?

Quantitative measures might be:

How many opportunities have I missed to speak up in the last five meetings?

How many times have I contributed an idea, challenged constructively or taken visible action that I would previously have avoided?

I also like to encourage use of outcome measures. Participants select whichever feel relevant to them.

Outcome measures could include:

Promotions gained within 6 months of completing the programme

Qualifications completed

Performance review scores increased

Health and wellbeing scores

Relationship with line manager improved

Number of new friends made.

Using the framework makes progress structured, visible and easier to talk through with a supportive line manager or mentor, so progress is sustained and problems are flagged early.

"Paula has increased my confidence so much over the course of the past few months. The fears that I previously held around presenting are disappearing as, through Paula, I gained a real understanding of what my ‘blockers’ were and how to get the best out of my own range of skills. No matter what your fears are, or your profession or level of need, Paula really tunes into you as an individual.  I could not recommend Paula highly enough."
